James "Kimo" Palakiko was born on Maui in 1980. He attended Christ The King School in Kahului before going to Kamehameha Schools in Oahu. After graduating he attended The University of Hawaii Manoa. Kimo is continuing his passion for Hawaiian Language and culture and is currently pursuing a degree in Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawaii Maui College. Kimo is a fluent speaker of Hawaiian and believes in the perpetuation of his Hawaiian Culture. He has been dancing Hula since he was young and is currently part of Halau Ka Malama Malahini under the direction of his Kumu, Pueo Pata. He has entered and won several hula competitions in the state including Merry Monarch Festival and Tahiti Fet.

Kimo believes in giving back to his island community. He is currently active at two of Maui's largest non-profits.
Women Helping Women and Revive Resale Boutique.
The mission of Women Helping Women is to end domestic violence through advocacy, education and prevention;
and to offer safety, support and empowerment to women and children, victims of domestic violence. Revive is a resale boutique that benefits Women Helping Women and is located in the Kahului Shopping Center. Open Mon-Fri 10-5, Sat 10-4. Accepting donations 10-4

Maui Arts and Cultural Center
Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC) opened in 1994, the culmination of a long standing dream of Maui’s residents to build a world-class gathering place for the arts. The Center is the most comprehensive, multi-disciplinary arts facility in Hawai‘i. Its diverse facilities include the state-of-the-art 1200-seat Castle Theater; multi-purpose 300-seat McCoy Studio Theater; the 4,100-square foot museum-quality Schaefer International Gallery; a 5,000-seat capacity outdoor Alexander & Baldwin Amphitheater; the Pa, dedicated to hula, as well as a mix of dance studio, classroom, and meeting room space.
